Maha Shivaratri is the famous Hindu festival which is annually observed in honour of Lord Shiva. The day marks a remembrance of overcoming darkness and ignorance in life and the world. Shiva was married to Parvati on this day. Devotees on Maha Shivaratri observe a strict fast and do various religious activities like fasting, offering prayer on the Shivalinga and doing pujas.
